Grahamfff   10 #1 Posted February 23, 2018 I have an Excel spreadsheet that looks like this:  Column A Column B Item1 X Item2 Z Item3 X Item4 Y Item5 X  Where the value in column B is X I would like the text in column A to be bold.  I've tried the conditional formatting feature as follows:  Cursor in cell A1 Create new ruie Select 'Use a formula t determine which cells are formatted' Enter formula: A2="X"  Then click to set the format to Bold  But this doesn't work? What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do?  Thanks  Graham  ---------- Post added 23-02-2018 at 12:04 ----------  For clarity - my enquiry didn't format quite as I expected - the letters X Y Z are all in column B  I have an Excel spreadsheet that looks like this: Column A Column B Item1 X Item2 Z Item3 X Item4 Y Item5 X  Where the value in column B is X I would like the text in column A to be bold.  I've tried the conditional formatting feature as follows:  Cursor in cell A1 Create new ruie Select 'Use a formula t determine which cells are formatted' Enter formula: A2="X"  Then click to set the format to Bold  But this doesn't work? Afilsdesigne   10 #3 Posted February 24, 2018 So in the conditional formatting box: Use Formula is and use the formula =B1="A" with the format result set to bold. Works for A and a on my version of Excel. So you are missing the = sign off the front of your formula.
 Share this content via...
Grahamfff   10 #4 Posted February 27, 2018 Belatedly, many thanks for this. I really though I had tried exactly this a few days ago without success - but it does work now!  Graham  So in the conditional formatting box: Use Formula is and use the formula =B1="A" with the format result set to bold.
