Nankypoo   10 #5 Posted February 20, 2018 Bartons Sunday morning breakfast - hash browns to die for. Saxon made regular Sunday morning visits too, as did ladies of the night who were discreetly ushered upstairs.
 Share this content via...
St Petre   85 #6 Posted February 20, 2018 Did 'Yankees' on Ecclesall Road have a similar thing ?  Or was that 'Uncle Sams' ?
 Share this content via...
Calahonda   11 #7 Posted February 21, 2018 Ron Barton was a steward (or something similar) on a transatlantic liner, he liked the burger bars in New York and opened Uncle Sams on Ecclesall Road. I well recall paying under 30 pence for burger and fries in circa 1972 (just under £3.00 today), the Freeman Brothers opened Yankees just up the road, but it never had the atmosphere of Uncle Sams.  I never visited Barton’s on West Street after Ron sold Uncle Sams, but understand that it had many financial problems, I wonder what happened to the taxi cab. Calahonda   11 #9 Posted February 21, 2018 (edited) where is i looked can not find it??? called bartons  Across from the old Glossop Road baths and just before the Somme Barrack, I’ve confused matters by saying West Street, when Glossop Road is a continuation of it. It went boobs up many years ago by the way. Edited February 21, 2018 by Calahonda
 Share this content via...

tam1 Â Â 10 #12 Posted February 21, 2018 I think it Barton's was further down the road where the new ice cream parlour is now though the original building was demolished.
 Share this content via...
