abbeyedges   83 #13 Posted February 18, 2018 It's rare for city centre retailers to own the buildings. Debenhams moved into that building after Pauldens.
 Share this content via...
The Joker   10 #14 Posted February 18, 2018 I was told* Debenhams will improve he outside of their building after the building works opposite have completed.  There’s little point in them improving things now, when they’re next to a building site.  *on this very forum, no less
 Share this content via...
Calahonda   11 #15 Posted February 18, 2018 I digress slightly, but other than The Crucible, are there any 50’s/60’s city centre buildings that are worthy of saving? Sevenstone is dead and buried, retailers are closing their doors for good, multiples are now just a memory. Town and City centres evolve in line with the needs and requirements of the public, when they need a haymarket, an abattoir, a pinfold and a cattle market they will be provided, when they don’t they will disappear, this is how it works.  I can’t remember the last time I visited the city centre, I don’t do Meadowhall or Ikea, I get my requirements on-line or from Supermarkets and off centre retail parks, which are very busy and don’t appear to be struggling, so I’m not a one off. Cyclone   10 #18 Posted February 19, 2018 i can remember Debenhams building and Atkinson's building being built for them in the fifties, which strongly points to them owning the buildings?  Not really, that just means that their tenancy was agree before the building work started, that's quite common. HSBC are moving into the new building that is going up, but they won't own it.
 Share this content via...
Glennis   15 #19 Posted February 19, 2018 Looks good Now lets hope Debenhams gets its act together and smartens up its store as it looks a real eyesore and lets the Moor down  it's as tatty inside, as it is on the outside.
 Share this content via...
gerryuk   10 #20 Posted February 19, 2018 The Debenhams building on The Moor is owned by the same company that owns Meadowhall, British Land. Debenhams rent the building from them, they do not own it.
 Share this content via...
