Has anyone here been surveyed or consulted?

Yes, I was consulted.

I was asked did I want to contribute more tax so that multi-national giants such as Boots, Vodafone, Starbucks, Google, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft could avoid paying theirs.

My reply was not printable.

I asked could I dodge loads of tax while simultaneously receiving the benefits of living in a civilised society that I did not fairly contribute to.

Their reply was not printable.

Its probably what is called a targeted survey

We used to do these at University, for example if you wanted to have a survey to ban cars then you target the correct people to ask the question to

So we would survey the Green Society at Uni, and they would vote 99% in favour of a car ban.

What about the other 1% ?

Could anyone who has taken part in this survey please comment - apart from 'The Joker', who probably didn't.;)

I'd be happy to pay a little more council tax if that resulted in better services. The NHS is on it's ar$e, social care (adults and children) is woefully underfunded and schools are already having to ask parents to pay for resources via begging letters - I'd rather it was done through tax.

I am unhappy about corporations avoiding/evading their tax liabilities like The Joker and would like something done about that, but that doesn't affect me being open to paying slightly more tax for better services.

Most of the people who would have said "yes" have totally unrealistic expectations, I believe council tax only accounts for 10% (?) of the budget and the other income streams are under pressure, so a 6% increase in CT will NOT give a 6% increase in services and the vast majority of people won't realise that.

I fully understand that, and that's why I said I'd need to see some tangible benefits, accepting it's not going to change the world, but it's better than nothing.

Unfortunately we are such a selfish society I doubt anything will change and people will continue to squabble, point the finger at others and use that as an excuse for them not to do anything to help.

I hope the survey was targeted only at those who pay council tax.

"Our budget consultation runs from Monday 11th December 2017 until Friday 19th January 2018"

Great if you constantly monitor the council website but most folk are busy doing other more important things in their lives, like trying to make ends meet !!
