sheffbag   229 #85 Posted April 9, 2018 Does anyone know what they are standing for? 85% of the people who vote wont have a clue. I hope Dan wins though purely to expose this role as the non entity it is. hopefully he will stay in Barnsley too
 Share this content via...
fill   10 #86 Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) i have never found a prospective mp or local councilor that adequately mirrors my own views coupled with the fact that I have long believed that election outcomes are irrelevant in that electing any one party only really gives a hint of the flavour of their next term in office as the actual policies they will introduce have already been dictated to them, or will be if adjustment is necessary  consequently i do not vote in elections i do however ensure that i attend all elections and spoil my paper because it has to be counted and is the only protest vote available there not being a box to tick for none of the above.  not voting at all could and is usually considered to be apathy rather than a political statement  but each of us ought to act according to their own beliefs and be guided by their conscience  admittedly i live in a ward in which a cockroach with a red banner would win for labour the party. which appears to be the one that always spends up and gets us into debt so my vote would be wasted, for me labour are arguably the worst party to represent anyone but the wealthy  a tory vote the outcome is usually the rich and often insensitive or ignorant, dependent on your point of view, stepping on those that are not rich. the tories are only held in check by them recognising they cant alienate all the voters if they want another term hence we still have a NHS (just)  voting for the liberals or any other of the other parties is just a wasted vote .. they protest it isnt and i suppose you could call it a protest vote but i think paper spoiling speaks loudest Edited April 9, 2018 by fill
 Share this content via...
sheffbag   229 #87 Posted April 9, 2018 wouldn't standing yourself be the loudest ? That way you give others who feel that there is no "none of the above" someone/thing to vote for and have a show of feeling
 Share this content via...

In the absence of this I too will be spoilng my vote with a few choice words.  ---------- Post added 09-04-2018 at 18:40 ----------  My real gripe is with the Mayoral elections which IMO ought to be a separate issue with individual campaigning.  Try as I might, I can find out very little about the individual candidates, and what I do know does not fill me with confidence. As I said before, do we really need a Leader of the council, a chief executive of the council, and a Mayor?  It's the Police Commissioner fiasco all over again..  How much is this lot going to cost? What wil the Mayor's salary be? Does anyone know?
 Share this content via...
Naive   10 #89 Posted April 9, 2018    What wil the Mayor's salary be? Does anyone know?  If Dan Jarvis wins, it will be £0.  Anna. These things are easy to find out. Why not do your own research instead of whining about stuff on here?
 Share this content via...
smiggs   10 #90 Posted April 9, 2018 (edited) I have some sympathy with Anna there has been very little campaigning for mayor, sad thing is the parties see it as a walkover for Labour. Here are some links I'm afraid no one has really produced a manifesto, somewhat bizarrely I don't think any of them have specifically endorsed the actual post they are running for, you have to wonder why many of them are standing.  Lib Dem Candidate Hannah Kitching https://twitter.com/HannahK_LD / https://www.facebook.com/HannahKitchingLD/  Green Candidate Rob Murphy https://sheffieldgreenparty.org.uk/about-us/councillors/rob-murphy/ https://twitter.com/RobMurphy2012  Conservative Candidate Ian Walker https://twitter.com/igwalker  Labour candidate Dan Jarvis https://www.danjarvis.org  English Democrats Dave Allen https://www.facebook.com/David-Allen-English-Democrats-881293571895970/  Save our NHS Naveen Judah https://twitter.com/judahnaveen  Yorkshire Party Mick Bower https://twitter.com/MickBower1 https://www.facebook.com/MickBowerYP/ Edited April 9, 2018 by smiggs
 Share this content via...

I just get impatient with people who expect everything to be done by someone else. Nice set of links by the way, very useful.  Anyway, Anna and everyone else will soon know all that they need to. This site is due to be updated and a booklet is winging its way to every household.  A vote for Labour looks like it is pretty much a vote to abolish the post, which is an innovative election strategy. It is probably the best tactic in the long run though. Edited April 9, 2018 by Naive
 Share this content via...

At last something useful. I don't actually do twitter, but it looks like I'll have to start following the candidates. However I'd still like to see a proper CV for each candidate. However I'd still like to see a proper CV for each candidate. After all, they are applying for a job, and expecting us to decide who gets it, so why not?  Fully agree, hoping to see more soon the campaign has hardly started yet. Some hustings have been scheduled:  http://www.brchamber.co.uk/event/sheffield-city-region-mayoral-business-hustings/  Hoping for something at more sociable hours though! Dan_Ashcroft   10 #96 Posted April 9, 2018 Why will he be doing it for nowt?  Because he'll be keeping his other full time job as MP for Barnsley Central - 4 days a week in Westminster, Fridays at his surgery in Barnsley  His whole plan is to say the job is pointless, then run for Major of Leeds when Sheffield gets subsumed into Leeds Region
 Share this content via...
