sheffbag   224 #207 Posted May 8, 2018 Either way, two-jobs Dan Jarvis won (what a surprise) but has no mayoral function at present other than drawing his CT-payer-funded salary.  Love the 2 jobs jibe as well as the falseness of his non existent salary.  So any MP that becomes a minister cant do their MP role as well? Ask Jarvis's predecessor who managed to be Northern Ireland minister during the troubles and still be Barnsley MP  smacks of sour grapes Jeffrey,
 Share this content via...
max   13 #208 Posted May 8, 2018 OK, let's say "...yet."  So, had you been elected in Nether Edge, would you have given up your job or would you have managed to be both a councillor and carry on being a solicitor?  Plus, having established that there is no salary attached to the mayoral role how can you say it is council tax payer funded? Jeffrey Shaw   83 #209 Posted May 8, 2018 So any MP that becomes a minister cant do their MP role as well? Ask Jarvis's predecessor who managed to be Northern Ireland minister during the troubles and still be Barnsley MP If an MP has another Parliamentary function, that's not a separate job; and nor is he or she chosen by the Electorate. Even the Labour Party was against the double-jobbing (at first, presumably until his acolytes got to pose threats- whereupon it backed down). WilburrUK   10 #211 Posted May 8, 2018 OK, let's say "...yet."  Jeffrey, Jeffrey, Jeffrey. Let's just remind ourselves of your quote  Either way, two-jobs Dan Jarvis won (what a surprise) but has no mayoral function at present other than drawing his CT-payer-funded salary.  At present, is he drawing any CT-payer-funded salary? Is that part of his mayoral function, AT PRESENT?  Is it Jeffrey, be honest now - I'm sure you can do it if you put your mind to it. apelike   10 #213 Posted May 8, 2018 Do you think that he lied when he said that he wouldn't take it?  I think this was just political showmanship as he had already asked a question in Parliament in October 2017 about how much the salary was. He already knew nothing had been decided and it would be a matter for Sheffield City Region to decide.
 Share this content via...
sheffbag   224 #214 Posted May 9, 2018 If an MP has another Parliamentary function, that's not a separate job; and nor is he or she chosen by the Electorate. Even the Labour Party was against the double-jobbing (at first, presumably until his acolytes got to pose threats- whereupon it backed down).  So what exactly is your issue with Jarvis doing both roles then?  If its because he cant serve as an MP for his constituants because he is doing other duties then other MPs have different jobs. (in the last 5 years there have been QC, Doctors, Farmers, Dentists, Tv Presenters who have held their jobs alongside being an MP) and they seem to have managed ok.  If its because he cant serve the Mayoral role fully due to his MP commitments then the role has no real use at present except trying to get the devolution deal accepted by the 4 councils.  your comment about having another Parliamentary function isnt really valid as it is still taking up a person time which they could be spending on a their local area.  Can you explain your comment about "nor he or she is chosen by the electorate" and how it backs up your apparent dislike of him  The Labour party would have been hypocritical if it had prevented Jarvis from having a role with no current powers or salary considering one of its front benchers co-presents a tv show and gets paid for it and another of its MPs is a lecturer at the University of London.  Or do you just not personally like him?
