I do believe the poor chap has caught the sun while bobbing about in the Channel, he's a frightful colour

You're not comparing him to a non kosher/halal meat product are you? ;)

The balls in your court, you’ve got your Brexit and big majority Tory government, deal with it.

If we are talking refugees from conflict, then I thought the first country outside the conflict they are escaping from that they came to were meant to shelter them until they could return home.  What seems to be happening is that England is the "destination of choice" for those who have no choice, and other countries just pass them on and help them to get to England.

If we could somehow change this perception, then refugees would not want to settle in England, and prefer other countries.  Instead of hearing about our benefits system, free housing etc etc, couldn't we somehow let them know about the racism, homelessness, knife crime, squalid conditions in the little remaining council housing, deprivation and so on.  Perhaps also do something about refugees sending money back home so that more could pay human traffickers to get the rest of their families to try the Channel Crossing.

Sending home the details of people who perished in the Channel, or suffocated in lorries they used to get  them to our soil would let people know the risks involved in attempting to get to the UK, as well as letting them know the fate of their loved ones.  The ones who make it seem to get word back about how good it its - at least let them know many simply don't make it, and would have been better off choosing a European country.

It was stated last year by a UN envoy that 70% of those crossing the Mediterranean from places like Libya ARE solely, economic migrants.

Libya?  Yeah, it's not like there's a civil war that's been going for several years, is there?

So you want to go around the world telling people what a nasty, racist, horrible place England is to live?

Got it.

I can't see the right-whingers having a problem with that, can you?

There's probably a downside I don't see, but if there is, I'm sure somebody will point it out to me.

Just as an FYI, migrants arriving on small boats has been an issue for at least a decade and did not suddenly happen once Brexit occured and/or when the Tories entered power.

This has been an issue for government's in the past which has never been fully resolved. It's just that the media are reporting upon it more to stir up outrage on both sides of the argument.

There was clear evidence on more than one of the News channels yesterday that the French Navy are following these boats until they leave French waters and enter UK waters.  Therefore it's absolutely ludicrous for the UK government to be giving the French government any money.

The big problem is the UK signed up to an international refugee agreement many years  ago meaning once these people enter UK waters the UK government is obliged to accommodate them. However the majority of these people are not refugees but are economic migrants.  The French government simply can't be trusted to prevent the migrants leaving their shores or their waters. Drones can't be used to spot the people early because they are against French law to use them for this purpose.  The UK needs to withdraw from the international refugee agreement and follow the Australian approach such as towing these people on the boats back to where they came from which is France as well as taking other measures.

Well that's the problem with giving money to people traffickers, as the vast majority are economic migrants they end up dropping you off in war torn areas for months on end.

Better to go through the proper channels.  Oh but of course, the majority being economic migrants are not from war torn countries & places where they are suffering any persecution, they wouldn't be ineligible to go through the proper channels.

Maybe if they get as far as places like Libya, they feel entitled to say they have come from a war torn country?
