Now, civic duty or profit: which do you think regularly won, and still wins, the most amongst UK employers?

 

Social media's done the rest: people have been getting FB, Whatsapp and Insta updates everywhere on the globe, for a long time now. Contrasting with life-or-death hand-to-mouth existence in the @rse end of nowhere (true poverty, African or Eurasian style), even the barely-paid-and-living-in-an-overcrowded-hovel existence in the UK looks an infinitely greener shade of grass.

Turkey does have a work permit system, but it is very poor and does not really allow people to get jobs and support themselves.

Once of the reason many choose to leave and try to find something better, they may be relatively safe in Turkey but they're pretty much forced to live in abject poverty.

Just heard on the news that Farage, hired a boat & a film crew & has made his way out into The Channel where he's observed a  French Navy vessel, escorting a boat full illegal migrants, out of French waters & across The Channel into UK waters. 

 

According to the BBC, over 1,000 have now made the crossing so far this year, many during our lockdown period.  Since last year, only 155 have been returned to France. 

 

Apparently both our & the French Govst are playing the latest incident down.  Of course they are.  Farage has embarrassed them both.  The UK Govt are clearly embarrassed because according to the BBC, the UK has given France several million of UK taxpayers money to buy equipment to prevent such crossings, which clearly isn't happening & he's embarrassed the French Govt, for colluding in helping illegal immigrants to our shores. 

 

It does seem strange that at a time of COVID-19, people can get worked up about not locking down ports & airports foe fear of legal travellers & migrants arriving in the UK with a potential to carry COVID-19 but care little about those entering illegally?

you answered your own question, how do you stop people entering illegally? you cant,  they can enter absolutely anywhere. The only way to do it, is to stop people being so desperate at the start, by making their lives better where they live.

Just watched the video - there's film of dingys and a couple of Navy ships from a distance. A lot of talking from Nigel about "this happened" and "that happened" but no actually footage of the things he was talking about. I would have thought that would have featured prominently.

unless you have navel vessels berthed around the whole coastline about 100 foot apart how do you stop people sneaking in?

Watching a live tv report this morning on Good Morning Britain from the English Channel.  Their reporter in a boat which had travelled close to the French coast, in their territorial waters, spots an inflatable dingy leaving the coast with a dozen men on board. 

 

Next they spot a French Coast Guard vessel approach but make no effort to stop the dingy moving further away from the coast.  Instead all they do is shepherd / shadow it out of French waters into the main sea lane of the Channel. 

 

The dingy of course just continues on its way until it enters UK waters, where it cuts its engine on the appearance of a Border Force vessel. 

 

Once again, French authorities appear to be complicit in allowing illegal migrants to become our problem. 

 

It doesn't matter how many times Priti Patel meets with her counterparts & strongly condemns French inaction, while ever you have the French failure to protect their own porous borders that allow illegal migrants into their country in the first place & then blatant complicity on the part of French agencies, the crossings will continue.

France has hundreds of miles of land borders - and seeing as most of them are governed by EU freedom of movement, why do they need to "protect" them?

The French Ministry of the Interior estimated clandestine immigrants ("sans-papiers ") in France numbered anywhere  between 80,000 and 100,000 people to enter the country illegally each year.

How many of those do you think reach the UK?

Do you think that the French should keep the all? We live in a world where goods and people travel freely in many countries. So its difficult for individual countries to say no.

 

There were 39.2 million legal visits by overseas residents to the UK in 2017. Should we be worried about the few hundred that cross the channel, or the 39.2 million?
