Council tree felling...

Recommended Posts

Speculating, but perhaps the contract forces them to do so otherwise they incur penalties. Or perhaps they so dislike being defied by the populace that this is their response.

The odd thing is that the contract says that Amey have to bear the costs of any delays etc caused by protests.

Arguably their own costs- eg. paying staff that arent actually working, but possibly not costs of using all endeavours to squash protest or other issues outside of their control that might stop them carrying out the work. Presumably this is what SCC have contracted to like Cyclone speculates

SCC swore that this wasn't the case and that delays were going to cost the council millions in compensation payments!

This quote from the article from SYP “These findings underline the complexity our officers face in dealing with competing interests, where they often have only a split second to make decisions, which are then examined at length for weeks or months, not just in terms of their legality but also around wider issues of context."

This is a nonsense. There was no "split second" decision. The council, it's lawyers and plod had been plotting for weeks trying to dredge up any old excuse from the statute books to make arrests.

Yes I see that the police video of one of the multiple arrests in question has been posted on YouTube, and that confirms the point you've made that it was not a split second decision. The police should not be issuing false excuses like this.

Although they have recently paid Amey £700K compensation for the alleged costs incurred by Amey when SCC delayed the felling program to set up the Independent Tree Panel and review some of the proposed fellings (most of whose "keep" recommendations were ignored anyway). I don't believe SCC have had to paid for any delays caused by protesters, contrary to Bryan Lodge's dire warnings.

Wow! Add the 400k legal costs and this contract is starting to cost the council a lot of money

Yes and people wonder why our great leader Julie Dore seems to have disappeared from public view . I haven't seen her on a photoshoot or on the news for months
