paula4sheff   10 #505 Posted February 1, 2018 Don't disagree with any of the above, unfortunately politicians (local and national), as well as the public don't like/trust independent reports or experts. And personally I think the tree protesters lose a bit of the moral high ground when they stick ribbons etc on trees that blatantly need to come down rather than picking their battles. Maybe that's just me.  Couldn't give a rat's at$e what Momentum, The Guardian, Michael Gove or anyone else outside of Sheffield thinks, should be up to us to decide.  Felling the very trees that needed it would never have led to protests though. That sort of thing has happened in the past, with no complications.  It SHOULD be up to us in Sheffield to decide- but things were done under a veil of secrecy, and the people of Sheffield had no choice or say in the matter whatsoever.  Given that - I welcome all the national news outlets - guardian, daily mail, times, telegraph, BBC, and other sources that have raised the profile of this. It's something that should be highlighted- and thank goodness we at least live in a society where dodgy practices are often brought to the attention of the wider public.  The downside of course is that it's further tainted Sheffield's reputation in the wider public eye - after all, one of it's badges of honour was "greenest city" - now anyone that follows news simply laughs at that claim. Baron99 Â Â 773 #506 Posted February 1, 2018 Clearly it's not only roads around Nether Edge where Amey / SCC have failed to carry out scheduled work on time. Apparently in this case a Streets Ahead spokesman are blaming a change of subcontractor for the Totley delay of several months. Where is the council on this ? They have gone strangely silent on all parts of this contract , Tree felling , resurfacing and so on . It appears that Amey really do have the upper hand
 Share this content via...

It appears that Amey really do have the upper hand  I'd say it became comical when they expected the general public to believe a pensioner had put a laxative in someone's tea, personally.  That was a brief moment of comic respite in what is really a sad and depressing state of affairs, that is making sheffield a national embarassment. Â It's also.a complete misnomer that often gets repeated that Sheffield is the 'Greenest city in Europe.' Clearly not when it's not even the greenest in the UK & surely it's continued to slid further down the list?
