Geo-atkinson   10 #92 Posted December 5, 2017 If Theresa May has the balls she can get the Ireland deal. The alternative for the DUP is forcing a general election. Then either the labour party will win it and they are more sympathetic to a united Ireland type deal. Or the Tories will win with a majority in which case the DUP can get stuffed. Or there will be a hung parlament again in which the DUP may not hold the balance of power. Either way the DUP can push, for now, but only so far. ENG601PM Â Â 10 #93 Posted December 5, 2017 Watching events unfold yesterday was hysterical. Â If I thought that Teresa May & Team were an arch negotiator (and the jury is out on that) I'd have said that it was a setup with the DUP to kick the EU in the gonads and restore the balance of power in the negotiations now that things are moving onto the future relationship. Ireland was (in the arch negotiator model) a patsy that overestimated its importance, and the EU was overcome by hubris. Â The coming weeks will be interesting and I suspect more fruitful for UK PLC, arch negotiators or not. Geo-atkinson   10 #95 Posted December 5, 2017 There is little doubt that Gibraltar will end up in a similar situation. The question about Gibraltar is can they get a special deal like Ireland and still remain with UK sovereignty or will the Spanish cause trouble? Watch the Daily Mail go to town over this one when it floats to the top. To quote German pop princess Nena "This is what we've waited for, this is it boys this is war." The DUP are a Unionist Party and don't want a United Ireland. The proposed arrangements put forward by the Irish Government makes the prospect of a United Ireland in the future greater.
