The EU and the Irish Border.

Recommended Posts

According to 5 live this afternoon, the Mayor of London thinks a border around the M25 would be a sound idea.

I think the little clown has lost his marbles.

Boris is no longer the Mayor, its Sadiq Khan now ;)

Sounds a bit like all those people shouting "they need us more than we need them", you'll notice you're not hearing that anymore.

I'm not going to apologise for saying this - it is only one of those things you should have considered before going all-in on Brexit.

Funny how this statement is coming back to haunt Brexiteers at the minute. Such a darned shame, you had it all planned out perfectly...

It wouldn't happen but it would be a fascinating experiment to see how the rest of the country would do.

How, what, where did Sadiq Khan make a comment about the M25 border?

The Daily Mail says it was a comment made to MPs by the Brexit minister David Davies on Monday.

Or from a tweet by Tom Harris in the Telegraph on Monday.

Perhaps you could back your observations and comments about Sadiq Khan and the M25 when even the Daily Mail and Telegraph don't make one?

If l was a sceptic l would say the plan is working. London and the south east remain in the EU, keep the money men happy, keep all the cash down south effectively making SE England a separate country with borders on the motorways up't North. The rest of us left with whatever crumbs the elite decide to throw our way. Basically, just a gigantic medieval city with an electronic city wall around London and the SE and us peasants allowed in on market day and special occasions.

thats what its like anyway, we dont need an actual wall to prove it

The ROI already "vet everyone" who arrives in the ROI for onward travel to the UK even if they do not intend to. As we do in reverse.

Suggesting British people have to have passports to travel from Birkenhead to Belfast ie within your own country is ridiculous.

What better way of provoking the Unionists in NI is there than your plan of requiring them to show a passport when travelling to London?

How would you create a "hard border" between NI and ROI? There are 200+ roads and thousands of tracks, farm tracks, bridleways and footpaths.

Well, speaking of Trumpisms, Jacob Rees Mogg just took a little dig at Theresa May by asking her if she will put a new coat of paint on her red lines, as they are starting to look a little bit pink.

So topically with the thread, it's as clear a sign as you need, that the Brexiteers in the Conservative party are not going to allow her to compromise with the DUP.

Which she's understood well, by the evidence of her replies at today's PMQs (she insisted that the border question is a phase 2 issue, which clearly signals that she isn't going to attempt a compromise...but the fundamental problem is, for the EU27 across the table that's still a phase 1 issue just the same).

Day 253. Still no sign of cake having and eating :D

Finally, hard Brexit here we come. I expect that the new year will see a plan to pay nothing, set up an extreme tax haven economy, deal on WTO, subsidise industry, halt the flow of money into the EU from London and wait for the German car industry and French banks to kick the EU in the goolies.

Theresa May it may not be PM by that point, JC Juncker will have been locked in the Cocktail Cabinet, and Donald Tusk will have taken over newly friendly negotiations on instructions from the Polski Departmentski a Socialista Securitate.

I reckon it will be concluded in about two weeks, including lunch.

:)
