Footpath Not Marked On OS Map

I had a bit of an argument with a farmer near Damflask Reservoir yesterday because I inadvertently strayed from the footpath...which wasn't marked on the OS map - he was rude and aggressive...and a bit strange.

I'm wondering what other walkers' experiences have been under similar circumstances.

Luckily I've never had an experience like that but I have come across footpaths that are clearly signed but no where to be seen on my OS map.

 

I wonder how often OS maps get updated?
