Seems to be alot of people on here having a go at each other, but the fact is the wrecking of the bikes is not isolated to particular areas. It is fairly widespread and totally unnecessary. I live in the east end of Sheffield which comes in for severe criticism but I have worked all my life, have a reasonable job and don't wreck yellow bikes. It is not where you live that defines you as vandal but who you are as a person.

There was never a time when kids or adults did no wrong, but when I was at school in the 60s and a teacher or the head had found their pupils destroying or stealing property in school time, they would have been caned, and if outside school some punishment would have been metered out by their parents, yes, even the poor ones of which, in this city, there many.

Not only due to vandalism and theft but also due to the reasons below.

 

But a redesign and partial switchover to electric versions, plus a change of management from French giant JCDecaux to Franco-Spanish upstart Smovengo proved messy.

 

After weeks of disruption, just 64 docking stations were operational by mid-January out of 1,460 supposed to be up and running by April. Many riders complained the mobile app regularly crashed while calls to customer service went unanswered.

 

Smovengo blamed the delays on electrical problems and a legal dispute with JCDecaux.

But it also says these bikes were then left unlocked after use, not docked or locked, not that the OFO locks appear to be of much use if someone is determined to remove it.

Dockless bike hire company ofo has hailed the launch of the scheme in Sheffield earlier this year, with more than 28,000 trips recorded so far.

 

A total of 13,232 trips were made in January, growing to more than 15,000 in February. There have been 6,220 unique users in Sheffield up to the 11 February.

 

The majority of journeys have begun within the city centre, with Kelham Island Museum, Sheffield Train Station and the university campuses proving the most popular.

 

Ofo will now be adding 300 new bikes in Sheffield at the end of the month.
