Take a few minutes out of your day to watch this report from the BBC. I was genuinely shocked. Malawi, El Salvador and Zimbabwe have all recently banned child marriage and yet it remains legal in the good old US of A.

The USA is also one of very few nations on earth where there is no paid maternity leave, no guaranteed health cover for any maternity services and it's been confirmed in the last few weeks that the guarantee of health cover for contraception is also being removed.

 

It's really not that great to be a poor young woman in the USA.

It was only 4 years ago that the Vatican changed it from 12 to 18 and Spain only changed it in 1999 to 13 and then to 16 in 2015. There are still a lot of eastern European countries that have it at 14.

I was also shocked to learn that African Americans have ***** printed on their birth certificates. But then realised that's not surprising at all, given how the USA is a country based on racism.

Good. I mentioned it because one of the women who had been married at 11 had it on her birth certificate.
