Dimple   10 #961 Posted May 17, 2018 Name one. Go on.   Promises kept. To nominate a Supreme Court Justice To withdraw from Paris climate agreement To reduce environmental regulations To crackdown on immigration To renegotiate trade deals  Oooh, that's rather awkward. Phanerothyme   12 #962 Posted May 17, 2018 There should any need to. The trouble with Trump is that he's keeping his promises, and quickly.  The keeping of these promises is only a problem inasmuch as the promises themselves (many of them) are deliberately divisive and provocative.  It's a kind of policy strategy -stress test the status quo and see what breaks, then try and control the fallout in a way that maximises profit.  So opening the new US embassy in Jerusalem on the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the state of Israel, and the displacement of thousands of people, was evidently designed to provoke maximum backlash.  Trump owes his presidency to the Christian right, a group of people who fervently believe that igniting 'the final conflict' in the Holy Land will bring about the Rapture, and that they all have golden tickets for the flight to heaven when the time comes - so the sooner the better!  This will have been one of the conditions of their support.  "Donnie, we want you to immanentize the eschaton." "Sure, great, whatever you need, I'll do it greatly" "We won't forget this Donnie"
 Share this content via...

Dimple   10 #964 Posted May 17, 2018 In a new outbreak of ugliness and inviting direct comparisons to Hitler, Mr Trump gas been describing illegal immigrants as 'animals'. https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/pavbz8/trump-calls-undocumented-immigrants-animals  Are you being deliberately dishonest? He was talking about MS13.
 Share this content via...

ENG601PM Â Â 10 #967 Posted May 18, 2018 The keeping of these promises is only a problem inasmuch as the promises themselves (many of them) are deliberately divisive and provocative. Â I don't disagree, however. So opening the new US embassy in Jerusalem on the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the state of Israel, and the displacement of thousands of people, was evidently designed to provoke maximum backlash. Clinton, (W) Bush and Obama also made the same promise but only Trump kept it after an initial deferment. Make of that what you will about presidents keeping their promises but it looks crystal clear to me that Trump's record at keeping difficult promises is good. Â I'd rather Trump does keep his promises and as overtly as possible, no matter how divisive, subject to human decency of course. That way he can be judged on his actions, not his rhetoric, when the time comes to review his position in 2021.
 Share this content via...

Your contention is that he hasn't kept one promise but that is incorrect.  He might be an awful person, but he's keeping promises that other presidents broke.
