Like Oxford, should Sheffield ban all non electric vehicles?

Recommended Posts

But unlike Oxford where its only a city centre exclusion wouldn't it be brave if a 4 mile exclusion zone was introduced?

From hillsbough, to woodseats, to halfway to attercliffe

All non electric vehicles banned

And this would also include hybrid cars, banned too.

This would make a bold statement to the rest of the world that sheffield takes its environmental responsibility seriously.

And that poor health will not be passed onto the next generation from the current generation

No. Perhaps for public transport but come on? All cars within a 4 mile radius?

That would give you an 8 mile diameter, which would virtually wipe out the whole of Sheffield, even Meadowhall.

Not until there is a realistic solution on how to power them from renewable sources i.e. not fossil fuels/nuclear. Definitely they should be phasing out diesel taxis and buses though.

You've also got to consider that electrics cars cost a fortune. I can't afford one and I imagine the large majority of people in shef can't. If you just banned non-electric cars outright there'd be complete uproar, because you'd basically be banning cars. no chance. no one would do it. These things have to gradually be introduced.

I mean seriously think about it for a second...

You'd have alot of very unhappy people across the city, especially those who aren't anywhere near the tram line.

If you want to pretend like London you need to have the public transport system to do it.

Just having busses and a couple of trams is not an answer and never will be.

what a stupid idea, the city needs all types of vehicles and would make zero difference apart from the tree huggers feeling good about themselves.

meanwhile back in the world where real life dictates transport:roll:

So we carry on as we are?

Wouldn't it be great if sheffield led the way in something?
