Sheffield guttering crisis solutions

Recommended Posts

I’m not sure I handled this situation right, but this is what has just happened. Some ‘unruly’ looking men with really Irish accents just kept knocking on my door in the STANNINGTON area of the city so I answered and they said gutters need doing. I agree and last time Stephen stayed over he said the same too cos of noise at night. So I was really pleased to have this guttering service representative at my door. I said OK and he said that’s £70 and I said that’s reasonable. Anyway he came back after a bit and said “give me £27.99 for the things we need from Wixy’s” so I gave him £30 and say “Keep the change”. Now the men are on my roof and they just seem to be messing about.

Iv"e spent many a night in the gutter"s when iv"e been out drinking, and I must agree they need cleaning. £70 seems a bit steep though. must admit your generosity is a bit overwhelming (keep the change bit). anyway its early doors yet, let us know what the finished jobs like.

They did well to assess your guttering from ground level - well done them, they deserve every penny

What I don't understand is if they are cleaning your gutters, why are they on the roof. Most can be done off ladders.

Why don't you pop out there and climb up the ladder. Tell them you've come to learn a thing or two about guttering and the processes involved with ripping people off and would they mind you watching. Also ask them to install some forehead guttering for your good self, I've had it put in and its great. it stops all those annoying drips in front of your face when its raining. I even have a small water butt on my shoulder for watering the tomatoes.

The biggest of the representatives said slates were loose but they'd sort it for only £65 extra. Now that's what I call going "a buff and beyond" (as they say).

You should've given them a makeshift squirrels nest to take up the ladder, then a while later they would tell you you've got a squirrels nest (or whatever one calls them) and they will remove it for a mere £350- VAT.

:D If that was all for the fun of it, thank you. Some nice comments here. However, if that was a true story, please tell me "What have we learned today" :D I am sorry... at least now you know not to take offers like that one...
