Picking wild mushrooms

can someone give advice wheres good place to pick wild mushrooms? some woods near sheffield not far please dont say in tesco

The magical kind of wild mushroom?.not really lol..I suppose if you know what your looking for I see alot of wild mushroom in the wood that surrounds totley golf centre.

You need to be very careful if you're picking them to eat. I wouldn't recommend doing so unless you've had training.

 

Having said that, buy yourself a book on the subject and go to the types of woodland or other countryside that are the right habitat for the species you're looking for.

Ecclesall Wood is good as is Loxley Common. A bit further afield the Longshaw Estate is fabulous.

The woods overlooking Derwent Reservoir on the eastern side were good for parasol mushrooms when I went there a couple of years ago.

Have a Google search for a nearby Fungi Foray. Whatever you pick is inspected by

an expert, the one we went on they then cook the edible ones. It gives you a start and we

now know a few which are edible and cannot be mixed up with dangerous ones.

I would suggest that if you have to ask where to look, you may not know the difference between edible and inedible mushrooms.. be wary.
