fabgirl   10 #13 Posted September 26, 2017 This thread made me smile, I always remove it but my husband insists on leaving it in place.
 Share this content via...
Daven   10 #14 Posted September 26, 2017 In this time of terrorism, mans inhumanity against man and Brexit - it's good to know that SF can be relied upon to discuss the pointless with enthusiasm and purpose. willman   10 #17 Posted September 27, 2017 The foil/paper barrier is an aid to give a longer shelf life but mainly it is to protect the product in transit/on the shelf basically because the lid isn't tamper proof.  That's why you find it on jars and bottles of sauce too.  None of the lids are 100% airtight but the barrier doesn't reseal anyway. Puggie   10 #20 Posted September 27, 2017 Just spoke to a lady from Arla consumer care (they own Lurpak butter) and she said "to be honest it doesn't really serve a purpose beyond advertising"  So there you go
 Share this content via...
Berberis   10 #21 Posted September 27, 2017 This popped up on Reddit only recently. There was a photo published of the foil top of a container that had text telling the user to remove it.
 Share this content via...
Cyclone   10 #22 Posted September 27, 2017 Just spoke to a lady from Arla consumer care (they own Lurpak butter) and she said "to be honest it doesn't really serve a purpose beyond advertising" So there you go  Surely it's the tamper seal, so if you get your fresh marg home and the foil isn't attached, you take it back and don't use it in case someone injected ebola virus into it (or a booger). willman   10 #23 Posted September 27, 2017 Just spoke to a lady from Arla consumer care (they own Lurpak butter) and she said "to be honest it doesn't really serve a purpose beyond advertising" So there you go  Well i can assure you she has no idea what she's talking about. For the exact reason Cyclone mentioned - i sell such products for a living and can say hand on heart i know more about it than the lady in consumer care does.  But if you prefer to believe her, then that's all fine.
