Are you supposed to take the foil out of the margarine tub?

This thread made me smile, I always remove it but my husband insists on leaving it in place.

In this time of terrorism, mans inhumanity against man and Brexit - it's good to know that SF can be relied upon to discuss the pointless with enthusiasm and purpose.

I love this place ............sometimes :)

A silly/trivial question and answer section sounds a good idea.

And a poll...with 37 different options.

The foil/paper barrier is an aid to give a longer shelf life but mainly it is to protect the product in transit/on the shelf basically because the lid isn't tamper proof.

That's why you find it on jars and bottles of sauce too.

None of the lids are 100% airtight but the barrier doesn't reseal anyway.

Its useful to grease a pan prior to baking, but I generally just chuck it.

My nan used to do that.

Just spoke to a lady from Arla consumer care (they own Lurpak butter) and she said "to be honest it doesn't really serve a purpose beyond advertising"

So there you go :hihi:

This popped up on Reddit only recently. There was a photo published of the foil top of a container that had text telling the user to remove it.

Surely it's the tamper seal, so if you get your fresh marg home and the foil isn't attached, you take it back and don't use it in case someone injected ebola virus into it (or a booger).

Well i can assure you she has no idea what she's talking about.

For the exact reason Cyclone mentioned - i sell such products for a living and can say hand on heart i know more about it than the lady in consumer care does.

But if you prefer to believe her, then that's all fine.
