Over 50s Men's gardening project

Recommended Posts

HI All,

I am just enquiring to gauge the level of interest in a gardening/ green space renovation project that I may have coming up. I am looking for blokes over 50 to manage and take part in the project, purely based on how the funding works. Just to clarify I am looking to volunteers or anybody who may be interested in a community project.

Thanks

What area of Sheffield?

I am Rotherham, and if the project was in S9 I could be interested as that is not too far away.

Why only men? I'm not volunteering, I don't have time but I know a few female gardeners that have quiet specialist gardening knowledge.

Have you had a look or advertised on Hugh Fernley Whittingstalls Landshare website? You might get some volunteers on there.

HI,

Our funding only covers projects for men over 50 which is why we are targeting that age group. This project is not finalised yet and we are still in discussions the purpose of the post was to gauge interest and gather thoughts.

The project will be taking place in S5 not too far from concord sports centre.

Thanks:)

I didn't realise you were legally allowed to discriminate on the basis of gender on a project of this kind. :o

Still don't understand why you have to be male 50 and over

What's all that about?

Maybe someone left some money to fund activities for males aged over 50?

Everyone doesn't have to be eligible to do everything, you could complain that boys aren't allowed in under 10's girls football, or vice versa, or would that just be virtue signalling?

My own understanding is that men over 50 have been identified as an "at risk group" in respect of health matters. An example would be the men in sheds project which is a national* initiative. The idea is running in other countries too. A lot of men over 50, possibly early retired, redundent, widowed, living alone etc can feel isolated and on the scrap heap.

That is not to suggest that women over a certain age are not at risk, even if for different reasons to men. Maybe there are* similar elements of support* specifically for women?

As you have already said, there is the men in sheds project for men, what is there for women? Why exclude women? It doesn't make sense to me. Why not have a gardening project for people over fifty?

I'm aware of the regs, you are missing the point entirely.
