Tramlines Festival - Hillsborough Park

Yes parks are there for everyone to enjoy - enjoy the peace and tranquility in a busy world.

 

They are areas of nature in an ever crowded City - feed the ducks, watch the squirrels, enjoy the woodland walks.

 

They allow you to breathe and relax.

 

The park itself is a living entity full of different animals homes.

 

It doesn't need to be constantly filled with event after event to be in use.

 

That's why they aren't constantly filled event after event.

We live a stone's throw from Hillsborough park and I think having Tramlines there would be fab. Last year, when Hillsfest was on, we were saying that we thought it would make a great venue for Tramlines. It makes much more sense than Endcliffe, with the tram running by it. They seem to manage to clean up after the events they have OK.

 

I do think they need to balance out everyone's requirements though, and make sure the calendar isn't too OTT with big events all the time. Allow the residents and the grass some recuperation.

It's one weekend! If I lived near Hillsborough park and didn't want to see it, I'd arrange to be away that weekend. Pretend it doesn't even exist! Park will be back to normal the next week.

I don't think it will take anything away from the city centre, most of the acts will still be there but it allows a bigger name to be on in a more suitable venue for those that want to see it.

I think its ironic, the tramlines (not the festival but the tracks the trams run on) was the downfall of Hillsboro shopping area and damaged the local economy hugely

But now Tramlines festival is looking at having part of the event in Hillsboro park it will be a big boost for the economy in Hillsboro, and I am sure local traders will welcome the event with open arms.

Endcliffe Park is used every year so using a park this end of town is no different.

The tramlines festival is for the people of Sheffield and basing it in town/eccy road/endcliffe park, is a little bias, having Hillsboro park as a venue makes it more accessible to us in s6/s5/s4/s35 area of the city.

Why should our park be wrecked for someone to make loads of cash. If you believe it's non profit making count the flying pigs.

 

Anyone who organises an event in a park eg funfair, circus has to pay a non refundable bond if they leave a mess or damage the ground.

Yes I agree. It will make more accessible for those of us on that side of town (me included). It is a one off event it's not like it will be there everyday so I really can't see the harm. It will be a boost for local businesses.

 

Plus Hillsborough is a large park and has other events on throughout the year so holding part of Tramlines there isn't significantly different in my opinion from what happens with other events. Yes it will be bigger but it's not like the park doesn't have any events at all.

Hillsborough Park is increasingly used for events targeting hundreds of visitors without having the capacity around it for parking etc. If the council wants to hold these events here, it needs to drop the silly parking charge for the car park for starters.

 

Public parks arent just for the people who live around them.

Yes, if it makes the lives of those few 'moany' people considerably more difficult. I'm in no way claiming ownership over the park, but the council is beginning to stretch capacity here to such a point that it is becoming uncomfortable for the folks living around here.

Meetings I've attended the council employees and local councillors have been very sympathetic to points raised by the public.

 

I remember you had complaints when Hillfest occurred last year, how did those pan out?
