Scon instead of scone ?

Recommended Posts

Why do someone say scon ? You wouldn't say bon instead bone.

None of us would. It's gone away.

None of us say scon.

We all say scone, but some may pronounce it incorrectly.

What is the correct way?

You understand that the pronunciation of thousands of English words differs by region, with many divergences from the way dictionaries document the pronounciation?

It's a scone! Unless you're a posh Southern numpty, but what do they know?

It is scone, unless you have some underlying psychological issues.

It's pronounced 'scon' in Scotland to rhyme with gone. Not really posh, southern, or numpty! Rhyming scone with phone sounds very Hyacinth Bucket to me. ☺️ A poll was done a couple of years ago, 'scon' is the more popular pronunciation.

Sorry, deleted the reference to Scone Palace from my previous post. I've no idea why it's pronounced 'scoon' .

I'm a Southern numpty and I've always said scone. My Scottish mother-in-law, on the other hand, said scon.

Equally though you wouldn't say gone instead of gon.
