The word you keep missing is 'remains', thats why theres archaeologists dealing with it.

Did you actually think that the markets would go and a full blown castle, turrets and all would spring up in their place?

O.K.Sorry has any  one actually seen any remains not seen before the latest dig, If so what do they consist of and when can one join the proposed guided tours to view this new tourist attraction.

I'd like to bet, "very little of worth" will be found therefore the council has no alternative but to begin building more apartments to try and regress the balance sheets because of the huge loss incurred during the sheffield castle dig, of course the apartments won't be owned or run by SCC, we will just sell the land and end up out of pocket (well sheffield will, the councillors responsible will end up very much in pocket). Thank you for your backing people of sheffield.

The luvvies are talking of parks and riverside walks with drinkies in the Bull and Mouth , As though this is a fitting end to what was Sheffield's most important trading area ,These people live in a dreamland and have no idea what made Sheffield tick ,it is as though we have surrendered our heritage to these experts in planning .

The luvvies are spot on in their assessment. This area is ripe for regeneration and that doesn’t include more B&Ms and Lidl’s. Millsands/Wicker, Kelham Island, Broad Lane/Uni quarter redevelopments all link via this one. It is the most effective way of creating a strong and popular area of the city that will attract inward investment.

 

The only thing you are saying here is that you hate change. Got news for you, grow up.

Maybe its because Im a Sheffielder and I love Sheffield Town .

Well maybe if you love Sheffield city so much you would welcome investment and redevelopment of a clearly run down and scummy area.   

 

Face facts.  Nobody gives a flying toss about that "historical trading area".  Castle and Sheaf markets had become decaying and filthy 60s eyesores filled predominantly by lowlifes, vagrants and druggies.   Shopping has changed and the primary retail has moved to the other end of town.    

 

These 'luvvies' you rudely describe have more vision on the future of the castlegate quarter than some rose tinted dinosaur who cant accept change and just bemoans the loss of an ugly eyesore. 

 

Embrace the change.  Castle house has had a new life after years of being empty, redevelopment of kelham has brought life back into old factories that have been dead for decades, the old town hall (...which everyone has been crying about been left abandoned...) might now finally be reused.  This is a good thing isn't it?? 

 

What's your alternative?  Leave it just the way it is filled with empty decaying shells because your memories like it that way?

Not at all ,I only asked when I can view the Castle ,or the remains of this future tourist attraction that has cost proper Sheffielders their much loved markets area.

Perhaps the earwax spoon could be put to good use by those in the town hall.

If you were really concerned about Sheffields heritage you would be complaining that the markets were moved from their traditional  area of Market Place, where they had been for circa 700 years, and moved into a concrete monstrosity built on top of true heritage.

 

I suspect that your idea of heritage has the same span as your lifetime.
