jaffa1   10 #29 Posted August 1, 2017 I have lived in Sheffield off and on for twenty years and never been down to Exchange Street - it's like another city entirely. They should never have build the castle market.  How can you say that if you have only lived in the city for twenty years , it was probably built well before you where born. Let's face it you don't really know the history of Sheffield. The Castle market was great when it was thriving.
 Share this content via...
Guest makapaka   #30 Posted August 1, 2017 The Castle and Sheaf Markets, Haymarket and waingate was busy right through the 80's early 90's.  Loads of people shopped there.  It wasn't upmarket but was busy.
 Share this content via...

apelike   10 #32 Posted August 2, 2017 the old castle ruins/foundations that the market was built on.  To be honest I didn't think much was found as looking at the photos of what was found it seem to be just a few bits of wall and nothing much of interest. Dan_Ashcroft   10 #33 Posted August 2, 2017 Will they be wanting volunteers to help in the dig at castles?  The University is doing it. Archaeology is quite a skilled job - picking through it grain by grain and all that.
 Share this content via...
WASPIsheff   10 #34 Posted August 3, 2017 Much preferred the old markets, they had a bit of character.
 Share this content via...

It just seemed like a blot on the landscape - grimey concrete obliterating the view of the Old Town Hall, out of scale with all the buildings around it.
