Castle archaeological dig

The tobacconists closes at 16:00 not 14:00, it used to close Thursday's and Sunday's, but according to Google it is open Thursdays. it is surprising that it has survived the markets closure but on asking recently they are doing ok.

Hopefully the redevelopment will make it a destination people want to go to.

Go and have a look before making stupid comments. Because plenty of real Sheffield people go there often for that shop specialist products and services.

Did you get out of bed the wrong side this morning?

What I've said is it's a shame that this hidden gem has been neglected so long and hopefully once redeveloped more people will get down there.

William Moss and sons dug down thirty foot in 1960 while building the Castle Market.

They found a dead dogs skeleton and a rusty chastity belt.

No they didn't!

Chastity belts never existed.

I'm not going to lie to you, did have a little headache. You are right redevelopment is important there. There are several hotels nearby who visitors first thing they see of Sheffield is castle market.

Reopening sheaf river is a great idea that could freshen things up around there.

How can visitors see castle market when it has been demolished, and as far as

I can remember, was never considered an attraction.

It was bigger attraction than the out of town one at Moor foot ;)

I walked past the moor market again today, not even the heavy rain made me want to enter it. It's a joke.

They didn't find a 1950's tanner there did they, I'm sure I lost one in the market, it was silver colour with a Queens head on one side.

In their defence they said 1950s - so the whole decade. That includes nearly 8 years when the Queen was the Queen - indeed the sixpence was redesigned in 1953 to include profile of the Queen...anyway..

Any connection between the two?
