Well, that was a shambles...

 

Not the ride, but the traffic control (or lack of it) presumably arranged (not) by the city council.

 

I wonder what the balance of people who benefited from the ride against those who were inconvenienced by the ride was?

I did this today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great to see all ages out cycling on roads that they often wouldn't have attempted.

 

There's also racing in Sheffield this wednesday to watch. Hope the good weather continues.

I've been at Hunters Bar all afternoon. It was easy to drive to and well organised.

I went to the market, watched some cycling, went for coffee, went to the pub, went for pizza and drove home.

 

All very easily.

What was the problem?

 

Driving back into Sheffield after a few weeks away. Traffic on the Parkway for the turn onto the ring road anti-clockwise backed up for a kilometre but with no warning signs about the cycle ride road closures. Took the clockwise ring-road which was fine until nearing the Waitrose roundabout, when the lanes were coned off, again with no warning or diversion signs. Took London Road and tried to head to Brocco Bank - roads closed at Hunters Bar with no warning or diversion signs, so ended up heading to Crookes via Highcliffe. Took an hour from the M1...

 

A little bit of signage would have gone a long way in helping us to decide which route to take from the Parkway but there was nothing. Very poor plannng for this event.

sounds like typical SCC as they cant run much except waste cash on lots of silly ideas,only amey can match there mistakes ect.

Fantastic day, great route did the circuit 3 times with my 10 year old.

Anything to encourage more to get out and move more is a good thing.

If you were at Hunters Bar all afternoon, then you wouldn't have been caught up in the traffic jams all round the ride route.

 

No adequate signage of the diversions - in fact in one place a diversion signh pointed people down a road which was then blocked off -terrific service from the council as usual.

Just my point! Nothing against the event, just the traffic management.

But I drove there without any problem. Parked within a two minute stroll of the market and drove home again.

 

Admittedly, I did check the cycle route online and planned my journey. Maybe that's what made it easy for me.

I looked out of my window at about 11 AM and London Rd was blocked off past Sainsbury's for buses only. Traffic was backed up London Rd and up the left turn up Boston St.

Looked out about an hour later and it looked like someone had kicked over the Bus Only signs and traffic cones, as they were laid flat in the middle of the left lane, and traffic had resumed in the right lane towards St Mary's Gate.
