Council tax arrears

Recommended Posts

A lot of scaremongering going on here, you definitely won't be sent to prison for NOT BEING ABLE TO pay a debt. If the debt is substantial and there's really no paying it back then you should file for bankruptcy, which covers council tax debt/arrears.

Never heard of Direct Debit then?

Or do you get a kick out of a queue?

I won't use DD with the council, if I used that they would probably have taken the £700+ out of my account they said I owed when l didn't owe a penny.

I've said it, others have said it: GO TO THE CAB.

I was an adviser for 10 years and have dealt with such cases.

Ignoring the problem only makes it worse.

As one poster said Don't get arsey with the council, they just follow a script.

Once it's gone to court it's out of their hands.

You need expert help.

I have sat in on two court cases for non payment.

One explained her situation as to why she got into such a mess and was told to pay a certain reduced amount WITHOUT FAIL every month..

The second case got all cocky and played the big I am.

He almost fainted when sentenced to 9 months .

There was a pause and the magistrate added"suspended for 18 months" on condition he paid his tax and a fine.

He would have promised anything after that.
