Pugg   10 #1 Posted June 22, 2017 I would appreciate advice on an iPad problem, please. I am very tech unsavvy. When I am using Google or google chrome, the page keeps cutting out, and quite often switches the machine off completely. Is this a common problem? Is it one that can be sorted out via Settings, or is it the machine itself? Is it the kind of problem that needs specialist attention, and if so, can anyone recommend who to contact? Or is it likely that machine needs ditching? It is about 3 years old. Advice very much appreciated; any recommended action in simple layman's language please. I am a very simple layman! Jerky   10 #2 Posted June 22, 2017 Try using the built in internet browser called safari. Do you still have the same issue? If so please state which ipad model you have along with which software version. To do this go settings- general-about.
 Share this content via...
TheNugget   10 #3 Posted June 22, 2017 I'd do the following for any issue like this with an iOS device:  Update or delete and re-install the app that is causing the problem. Then if still occurs:  Back up the phone using iTunes. Restore to factory settings (which wipes everything on the phone). Restore from back up.  If that doesn't work, try restoring it to factory and using it without restoring you back up. It could be something in the software causing it that will be replaced by your back up.  Before you do any of that though, update the phone OS and iTunes to the latest version.  Failing all of that, book an appointment for the Genius Bar at Apple. They will tell you to do all of the above, so you can tell them you tried already. They have diagnostic tools etc an
 Share this content via...

If so please state which ipad model you have along with which software version. To do this go settings- general-about.  I have just had a few minutes using Safari, and not had a single problem. Many thanks for your help. If this continues to be the case, should I just continue using Safari, and forget about the way I have been in the habit of using the iPad? If you have the patience to explain the problem and apparent solution, I would be interested. But if it is complicated, don't waste your time trying to get me to understand! And thanks again.  ---------- Post added 22-06-2017 at 17:21 ----------  I'd do the following for any issue like this with an iOS device: Update or delete and re-install the app that is causing the problem. Jomie   30 #5 Posted June 22, 2017 I've tried other browsers on the iPad but always end up deleting them and sticking with Safari. I don't use the Safari icon though. Because there is no home button in Safari I make a shortcut to Google and have that on the dock. To do this you need to bring Google up in Safari then click the square with the arrow (top right), click Add to Home Screen. Drag and drop the G icon onto the dock. When you want to use Safari it will always open with Google as the home page.
 Share this content via...

Again, many thanks. i would bet that the issue is chrome. uninstall chrome then reinstall. Do you still have the same issue when using chrome after reinstallation ? If so then i would use safari until an update has been applied to chrome, maybe a month or so. Safari is just as easy as chrome to use so have a good browse on safari and you'll be used to it in no time.
 Share this content via...

Just type your search query into the address/search box of any Safari window and press Go on the keyboard. No need to actually go to http://www.google.co.uk.
