The Consequences of Brexit [part 4]

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I'm not getting your point. The whole of the Dunkirk thing was running away.

The point was that he was always fully aware of that fact and accepted it, but the commemoration displays and the whole 'Dunkirk spirit' thing was, and is, an attempt to spin the facts into some glorious endeavour.

The BEF of which he and his comrades were part of, together with their allies were totally defeated and driven off the continent by a vastly superior German army.

Yes, the rescue effort was tremendous, but it was mainly down to pure luck that so many survived.

The poor visibility weather prevented the Luftwaffe from 'shooting fish in a barrel'.

Had it not been for that and the Channel it would have been all over.

The Germans would have been eating Arbroath smokies and drinking malt whisky in Aberdeen by early July.

The point that I was trying to make is that the truth is better than fantasy.

Accepting the truth of a situation without any delusions helps to decide on what action to take.

Believing myths leads to hubris, and the belief that you are capable of things which are in fact beyond your ability.

Which can lead to a really nasty conclusion.

Hopefully sense will prevail and wishing and hoping based on no substance will be seen for what it is, delusion.

This is a great country in many ways but some people seem to still be living in the days of the Raj in their own minds!

This morning in the news

"Analysis from economic consultancy Oxera says cost to UK of new customs checks and ensuing delays could amount to more than £1bn a year"

Yeah, but £350m/week saved right... Leavers. Where's the £350m/week?

Britain will be hit by huge border delays, require vast lorry parks in the south-east, and suffer more than £1bn a year in economic damage, according to a stark economic analysis of the likely impact of customs checks after Brexit.

Indeed, according to the article: "This is an extremely conservative estimate"

We haven't left yet, so at present it's still going to the EU.

Hahaha :) funny how less than half that is going to the EU a week at the moment. Never mind anybody in government doing sums on what it is getting back for that. It's okay though, they finally commissioned a study on the true 'cost' of immigration.

For all you hard Brexit meffs and codgers who demanded tougher border controls, Christmas has come early:

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4751650/amp/British-families-suffer-Brussels-passport-checks.html

Though according to the Guardian (recommended by some posters) this is more to do with security checks in light of recent attacks than anything else.
