Channel 4 HQ - Sheffield

Recommended Posts

A shame, but no surprise. Might have a slim chance with the creative hub thing - Id like to think we can at least beat Stoke!

Yes but the other Cities that don't win the relocation automatically are in the running for the creative hub, copied below from the Guardian link someone posted.

The shortlist for the national HQ comprises Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and the West Midlands. Each is also short-listed for a creative hub if it fails to secure the main prize of the new headquarters.

Can’t see it. If Leeds gets the big one, then Sheffield will be too near to be a hub. And if Leeds fails to win, then it is likely to be higher up the pecking order in trying to get the hub gig, as a consolation prize.

Because the Government don't give two hoot's about it, the council are clueless, and the residents are reluctant to any sort of change. Never mind.

Hit the nail on the head .

Agree but my money would go on Glasgow; Scotland's premier city for me with a large, diverse population & about as far away from London as possible (& it'd be a gesture to Holyrood from Westminster), or Bristol, again with a diverse population.

Both cities are already, vibrant, young, forward looking media savvy & high on culture & even accounting for their distance, have good transport links to London. Glasgow is a previous winner European City of Culture & Bristol won the EU's European Green Capital Award a few years ago.

These two cities have all the right credentials & have much of the infrastructure already in place. Forward looking local authorities, SCC take note. They aren't sitting around waiting to be given something on the off chance from central Govt. to improve their lot.

Pinched from Sheffield Online after reporting that Sheffield is getting a new TK Maxx store:

Lost out on becoming new home for Channel 4, but got a new TK Max.

Like losing a £20 and finding an old, obsolete 10p.
