lesserthan1 Posted March 12, 2018 Posted March 12, 2018 Are Sheffield still in the running for CH4? Was Sheffield ever in the running for the channel 4 HQ? I always thought we were an 'and Sheffield... Pfft!' Lets be honest, we had more chance of getting the olympics than we did the HQ of channel 4. Even if they had've built a gleaming palace of media and brought 10,000 highly paid jobs to the city most of the residents would find a way of complaining about it, and the council would find some way of blocking them.
edensor Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 As a result of a Channel 4 'Dispatches' programme the leader of Sheffield's bid had his House of Commons pass removed for six months
darylslinn Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I reckon Liverpool will be favourites for this, given the connections to Phil Redmond etc...
Revel Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Pipe dreams. You'd do well to remember that, in the eyes of Westminster, Manchester and Leeds are the only two cities to exist in the north It may be given to Liverpool as a token gesture, but only because it's reasonably close to, and has good road connections with, Manchester/Media City.
tinfoilhat Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I'd go for Manchester, Liverpool or Birmingham if I'm honest. In fact as an outside bet I'd say Belfast would be a better option than Sheffield.
Mister M Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 I wouldn't want it to go to the Greater Manchester area. They already have the BBC over there. Birmingham would be a good option. That grotty bit of scrubland that Sheffield have offered up is just a joke.

It's the little production companies (and the companies that supply them) that have sprung up and thrived in Manchester would improve and expand if C4 moved there. You might get them spring up Birmingham but I suspect that market would be fought over by the London and Manchester companies, probably with the London ones winning. Anything that drags money away from the capital is a good thing in my view.
choogling Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 Or maybe it's the lack of its hipsters that's the problem... hipsters or berks in beards as I call them.
