Will you stop coming on here, blowing my ill thought through suggestions out of the water with your common sense.

Bravo Sir!

If only everyone with ill thought out suggestions, would back down when they realised it and not defend it to the hilt, veering more and more off topic!

Thank you.

Are you going to answer my question on parking for councillors and council employees.

It looked more like an unfounded allegation than a question.

Because they can. They will charge at a level which optimises the amount they take.

The Wellington St one has been under utilised for a while since conversion of the office space above which meant they lost a lot of the contract parking which used to predominantly fill that car park. It filled up quickly once they dropped the charge to 50p/hour.

You mean the "vast" surplus that ranks them at 58th place in the league table of local authority parking surpluses? I'd think that gives you a clue as to just how cheap parking actually is here.

For Local Authorities, parking charge increases aren't about making more profits, they are about demand management. They can't lawfully increase prices to earn more surplus income.

Check your arithmetic by the way, £7.3m - £4.3m = £3m not £2m

So that £3M surplus generated by the SCC on unwanted parking schemes will increase.

All the 58th place means is that there are 57 other councils who rip the people who pay their wages off more than Sheffield - nothing to be proud of!

Are you going to answer my question on parking for councillors and council employees.

As others have said, you didn't ask a question, it was more of a statement.

Most Council employees don't receive any concession and pay for their own parking if they want to come to work in a car.

Some, who have an operational need to park a vehicle, get a permit. Some people get a permit to park at all times, these are people who might get called out to site at any time or need to go out in the vehicle on a frequent basis, usually daily or a number of times a day. There are three categories of permit. The highest category get spaces in the car parks underneath Council buildings like Moorfoot and Howden House. These are normally people who have a genuine need to park close to their office, like those with disabilities. Next grade of permit holder can get a space in the buildings if one is available, if not they use surface level car parks or on-street. Third category uses a limited number of Council car parks and on-street spaces which are located in the less busy areas on the fringe of the city centre.

Others who are occasional car users get a day (6 hour) permit to use on the day they need the car for work.

Councillors have dedicated parking available in Howden House.

Any council employee or Councillor who uses the permit incorrectly gets a ticket, same as anyone else and, they have to pay it, same as everyone else.

That all depends on your point of view.

You didn't want a scheme in your area, but enough people did to convince Councillors to approve the scheme.

A lot of people wanted the schemes that are currently in and the Council get constant requests for more schemes as parking issues get worse.

Surplus income may well increase. It would be a foolish Council that didn't seek to make sure it covered its costs. However parking schemes are put in for traffic management reasons, not to raise income. That would not be lawful.

There's a pay and display car park at Blyde Rd.

The area does get enforced, but they can't be there al the time.

The Fir Vale area is clearly a parking violation hotspot, EVERYONE KNOWS IT; anywhere else other than Firvale, like Hillsborough for instance, and the parking enforcers would have a birthday there, without relying on people to report it first.

In terms of parking enforcement It is a place in need of special focus, but it won't get it of course. Wonder why?!

Not sure what point you are trying to make about Hillsborough, you need to be clearer.

There are a huge number of parking violation "hotspots" in the city. Trouble is, when the enforcement officers arrive, the vehicles get moved and then the vehicles get put back when the officers have left.

There are not enough staff to put an enforcement officer permanently on every street corner, neither would most people consider that a proportional response to the issue.

Parking Services have as I recall between 40 and 50 enforcement officers, covering 3 shifts a day, 7 days a week. Then there's holidays, sickness, training etc, So, there aren't that many of them on duty at any one time and they have many priorities to deal with. The best you are going to get in most places is occasional enforcement.

No-one is immune from enforcement action and no-one gets any special concessions. You just need to be realistic about what the Council can actually do.

You make me laugh Planner one if lost the count the times I've seen parking wardens around walkley, Hillsborough and other Areas but Fire Vale? Very very Rare if at all.

Just recently I drove past Hillsborough Park bottom Car Park n guess what the parking wardens was in there checking around Half a dozen cars that was in there and on my travels minutes later went through Fir Vale and loads of cars parked everywhere DOUBLE YELLOW Lines etc all at mosque not a Warden in sight and it's an everyday problem down there so you tell me where's the fairness there.
