2017 General Election candidates (Sheffield)

Recommended Posts

Hallam won't exist in the next election. It is one of the 50 constituencies being cut following the last boundary review (Sheffield will only have 5 constituencies in future).

Crookes and Ecclesall are going into central, whilst Fulwood and Lodge Moor etc. are moving into Penistone and Stocksbridge

Well, not quite, given that the new constituencies have not yet been settled or named.

And maybe any change will depend on which Party is in power when the plans resurface.

It already past through parliament in 2011. The draft proposals were published in 2016 and come into effect in 2018. It's independent, so can't be influenced by political parties.

The Boundary Commission do this about every decade, so there will be looking at the next set of changes for 3 elections time soon.

Your information is wrong. The 2011 legislation has been cancelled. The Government the instructed the four Boundary Commissions in 2013 to plan for less seats in Parliament.

2011 Initial proposals for boundary changes. The "Sixth Review"

2012 Revised proposal for boundary changes to be implemented in 2015.

2013 Proposals cancelled by a new Act.

2013 The purpose of the new Act is also to undertake the "2018 Review".

2016 The Boundary Commission of England published its initial set of proposals on 13 September 2016.

First Consultations begins.

2017 March End of Second Consultation.

Any revision and Third Consultation.

2018 Final proposals to be ready by September 2018.

Latest statement

"9 June, 2017

In accordance with our duty under the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 we are continuing with work on the 2018 Boundary Review. We have recently completed the second consultation of the 2018 Review and are currently analysing the 25,000 public comments that we have received on them. If we decide to revise our proposals, we will publish the revised constituencies and consult on them for eight weeks. This consultation is likely to occur towards the end of this year or early in 2018. The 1986 Act requires us to report our recommendations to Parliament in September 2018 and we are on track to do so."

The boundary review could now be cancelled with a minority government. Politically driven gerimandering potentially overtaken by the result of a politically driven general election. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-iain-duncan-smith-mps-constituency-boundary-review-analysis-a7798591.html.

An interesting question is of how come the proposals were so conveniently well gerrymandered when the Boundary Commission is supposedly independent?

NB: the 'Independent' isn't- it's always had a leftwing tilt- so what it says about the Review might not be 100%.

It looks like Nick has gone public so... from what I know, the reason his attendance was lower was because his son was ill with hodgkin's lymphoma. Nick didn't seek media attention at the time. I can only hope that people in the Labour party were also unaware when they chose to attack him on his attendance record.

Could you please identify where anyone who represented the Labour Party attacked him on his attendance record?
