To the person losing money at ASDA South Road ATM about 15mins ago

Thank God it wasn't "theft by finding" when I found 350 quid on the casino floor years back.

And if nobody comes collecting, you've given ASDA, a corporation worth billions and billions of pounds, free money.

Is it strange I find some sort of comfort in knowing there's still people out there that can turn a nice gesture in to a bad one.

I will however commend you God knows I do this at the Asda check outs ALL the time. Grab some cash back, remove card, leave. People have handed in my money before and I got it back. I've stopped using them for cash back now 'cos I always forget.

Don't take any notice of the fools on here and be happy that you did the right thing.

But they didn't.

Lost property is the remit of the police - not ASDA. Sadly not everyone is going to be as honest as the OP and if it goes to the police then there is a nice paper trail making sure everyone stays accountable.

Whatever happened to "Finders keepers,Losers weepers"?

You mean theft?

I.e., theft by finding. Theft act 1968.

.. it's waiting for you at ASDA Customer Services.

My wife and I handed it in for you

Not mentioning the amount or the sex of the person involved as we don't want it to go to anyone fraudulently.

Also not impressed to the bloke who shouted 'Keep It' to us.

That could be someone's rent/gas or electric money that they need to survive on sir!

Well done mate. On two occasions I have left money in the cash machine, first time I left £300 but the machine had swallowed it back up.

The second time I was in Asda self service requested £50 and was just getting in to my car when a lady came inning up to me with my £50 in her hand. I had forgotten to pick it up and she was behind me in the queue.

Bless her and yourself for being an honest citizen.

They did as it is was and ATM on ASDA premises, handing it in to ASDA would have been the quickest and easiest way and ASDA would then be responsible. Or would it have been best to phone the police, wait around till they came and then wait more while they fill in reports just for some money that was found in an ATM.

No waiting involved.

They just take the report over the phone.

Yes he says he waited 30 seconds to see if the machine would swallow it back see post#9.

But who picks up the money then, does the finder have to hold on to it?

I see, do the people who found the money get to keep hold of it in the meantime and if the owner of the money calls in what do the police do then?

EDIT: Bit late on this, see above as well.

The lady in front of my wife had gone through all the process, took her card out and then walked off while the loud beeping was going on - bless my wife, we did wait to see if the cash would go back in but it didn't.

We did try and call out to the woman to get her to come back but she seemed very busy indeed which was a shame.
