Sheffield Arena to close?

Recommended Posts

Talking with a leading menber of sheffield council a few days ago, and was told the council are planning to close Shefield Arena in three years time, as part of further cost cutting campagian. They are looking at building a smaller venue nearer the Town centre, at the most 5000 to 6000 seats. Apparently the Arena is not cost effective, any more due to the number of concerts and other shows lost to the newer Leeds arena. A smaller venue would attract more artist who don't need the 12,000 plus arena we have.

This rumour is obviously true due to the fact that John Shuttleworth, who I'm off to see on the 30th, has taken the wise precaution of selecting the City Hall for part of his sell out mega tour, rather than the Arena.
