How do you know?

Because I know some of them, I've even been in the house of one of them. They share stories with me about how much cash they get on a Saturday night, often over £100.

And here is a long list of reasons people are sanctioned that explain the problem.

For example, being late for training, because you attended your (compulsory) job centre appointment, being reported for being late and thus being sanctioned.

Perhaps you can be in two places at the same time though.

http://falseeconomy.org.uk/blog/a-list-of-completely-ridiculous-benefit-sanctions-people-have-experienced

Sanctions are barbaric and inhumane. Many have been sanctioned for not attending interviews they didn't know about because the letter with the appointment time/date arrived after the interview date.

The DWP send these letters by 2nd class Royal mail post, this guarantees that a portion of those letters will arrive after the appointment date. Each of those poor people will get santioned (no benefits for 4+ weeks).

Here's a link to the story of a diabetic claimant who lost their leg due to being unable to eat properly following a santion-

http://salfordonline.com/31135-outrage-disabled-man-salford-benefits-sanction-camapign.html

The sanction was later found to be illegal, and overturned. Obviously, his amputation couldn't be overturned.

What a sad world we live in, where bureaucracy is being used to starve, maim and kill the most vulnerable in our society.

I'd urge anyone who wants to know the reality of our modern 'benefits' system, to watch the recent Ken Loach film 'I, Daniel Blake'.

...and here's a link to a video elaborating on the above tragedy-

It's time that emergency legislation is brought in to make sanctioning illegal, full stop.

Well you did ask how I knew. Which answer would you have preferred? Or were you hoping I didn't actually know?

I notice that warpig hasn't managed to answer the simple questions he was asked, so lets pretend he wants to dispute the increase in homelessness. After all, he personally knows that many of them are lying about it.

The number of people sleeping rough in England on any one night has doubled since 2010 and increased by 30% in the last year, with an estimated 3,569 people now sleeping on the streets across England, according to new government figures.

We can probably assume that the government figures are very conservative I think.

And someone else wanted me to explain why, despite me not having said that I knew.

The report notes that many specialist homelessness mental health teams have shrunk or been closed as a result of funding cuts. Major cuts to subsequent homelessness prevention projects began in the wake of the financial crisis of 2008 and on average, local authority funding for services for helping vulnerable people avoid homelessness was cut by 45% between 2009-10 and 2014-15, according to the St Mungo’s report, Stop the Scandal.

What a shocker, conservative government cuts funds available to help them.

The figures come as little surprise to many working in the sector, who have noted a visible rise in the number of tents in parks and people in sleeping bags outside theatres and shops in central London and other big cities. But they mark a dramatic reversal of much of the progress made in the first decade of the century towards eliminating rough sleeping entirely.

We can't afford to help those with nowhere to live. But we can find billions to bail out the banks. We can't afford to take in any more child refugee's, but we can afford to cut taxes for big business.

What a first impression of the city for visitors entering sheffield from the Parkway , an outdoor squat.

This is not Calais . Come on SCC , do something useful for once and get rid of this eyesore ASAP.

surely its trespass and should be moved immediately as its a danger to motorists and a distraction not to mention an eyesore.
