Tram Trains thread

Recommended Posts

Tram trains are now running to Rotherham Central and Parkgate (at night with no passengers).

And have been for several weeks.

And have been for several weeks.

It is ironic this culture is so careful, scared almost of new technology and prepared to throw so much time money at testing a little train. Yet puts the cheapest deadliest cladding on the towers of it's lowest classes without even thinking about the consequences.

Any news on how far off the service is from launching? I'm suspecting the December railway timetable changes? Works look almost complete to platforms at both Rotherham Central and Parkgate, although there are no works around the link between Parkgate and the shopping complex. Presumably some landscaping works will take place?

There has always been a rigorous testing/acceptance scheme for new trains/trams and in theory the same applies to building regulations

You are I am afraid rather jumping the gun as what we do not know is whether it was the building regulations at fault or all those decision makers who contributed to the decision to use the cheapest cladding, or those who should have been checking it or indeed a combination.

The normal tram-train timetable is already included in the railway timetable.

The platforms at Rotherham Central and Parkgate need surfacing and full inspection.

The proposed route into the retail park is gated but unlocked but not suitable for public use as there is no lighting and signage. There is the other route from the footbridges.

The recent night time trials have taken place under 'occupation' with no mainline trains allowed into the section. The night Sheffield -Manchester Airport trip being diverted.

Tram trains are now running alongside proper trains during the day- no passengers yet.

There was a chap having a discussion about Tram-Train on the tram with the conductor this morning that turned quite heated when the conductor pointed out that the mans monthly megarider wouldn't be valid on the new service - nor apparently would weekly/daily ones... surely that's not the case?

Its not april, I dont know what happened yesterday.

Many companies in UK have little respect for customers upto the point when I tell friends abroad about it they think its all a crazy joke here.

I wonder if this is one date they will meet in this long and sorry saga

As for fares one might have expected these to have been announced at the same times as the planned opening (or heaven forbid together the recent fares increase) but then this is the PTE we are talking about

Sounds alot like it's been designed to fail.

They'll get jack-all passengers in the first 6-12 months, then close it before 2020.

It'll be a black mark against the network that will prevent further investment, a total joke considering no-one ever wanted the bloody thing in the first place!!

Megarider only covers Sheffield area (Meadowhall is included in both sheff and roth travel pass areas). Unless Stagecoach extend the boundary then the ticket will not be valid.

I would expect to see a more expensive variation of it to cover the Parkgate and rotherham area on tram when it launches or just get whichever name TravelMaster is using this week (SY Connect plus)
