Tram Trains thread

Recommended Posts

Is the rail line to stocksbridge from Sheffield still in operation?

Could that be a future train / tram project?

Yes, the line is still in use and it could be used as a tram train route.

However it is operated as a siding and has no passing places, wiring or signalling.

The need to reverse at Nunnery in order to access town makes for a poor journey time.

It misses or is not close enough to the centres of population along the route.

Huge investment would be needed in Park and Ride schemes and feeder bus services as well a link at Victoria or Middlewood to the Supertram system.

Are the Tram drivers going to be competent in full rules and regs? If not then how are they allowed to drive on the network - If they are then surely they'll immediately move to a TOC?

Interesting point. The remuneration package may be just another facet of the trial that will need taking into account.

No. There is a special agreement with Network Rail. They will be trained in the NR rules & regs required for the short stretch between Tinsley Chord and Parkgate.

Overheads now put in between the tram and national rail networks and the overheads are now fully energised through to Parkgate.

A few weeks ahead of what was planned.

I don't call OHLE just having its juice switched on for a service that was supposed to start about three years ago being ahead of schedule.

The new chord was handed over to Supertram on the 8th and testing has now begun.

399202 now has it's train wheelset fitted and made history the night before last as it ventured onto Network Rail infrastructure for the first time, it went as far as Magna on this occasion. There was also further testing this morning included the testing of recovery procedures using a Class 66 loco.

Vehicles had been on the chord for testing prior to the handover date.

That's great news. When is it likely to start running officially with passengers?

In your dreams

Real passengers will get on them some time after that.
