The Great Wall of Trump.

Recommended Posts

WTO tax rates are set, there should be no retaliation. I am not proposing "protecionism", just WTO tax rates.

Trump is proposing tariffs to pay for the wall, which result in retaliatory tariffs. Ofc they will reply in kind as would any nation.

Doesn't look like Trump is aware of the fact, nor of the current WTO-trumping NAFTA US obligations to Mexico (and Canada, and reciprocally)

Doesn't sound like Trump's plan, with his mentioning of (WTO-burying) 20% to 45%.

Please think.

I am thinking the Trumpet will rely on cheap Mexican immigrant labour to build the wall, then when the time comes to pay for the wall he will act in a similar manner that he does in his business dealings, which will be to declare America bankrupt so he doesn't have to pay for the wall.

And there we have it.

A wall between America and Mexico, that the Mexicans paid for.

Goodness knows what declaring bankruptcy will do for America's credit rating, but it doesn't seem to have harmed the Trumpet.

Years; anyway it's simply not possible to build a continuous wall through the whole border. The landscape, mountains, rivers etc won't allow it.

Trump's a total moron.

Agree with the last statement.

Disagree with the first one.

The Romans did it in Britain to keep out the scots and the picts who raided farms before it was built.

The Hadrian's Wall Path is a long distance footpath in the north of England, which became the 15th National Trail in 2003. It runs for 135 km (84 mi), from Wallsend on the east coast of England to Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast.

The chinese did it. https://www.travelchinaguide.com/china_great_wall/facts/how-long.htm

Thanks to the modern measuring techniques, and after an archaeological survey taking more than five years, the total length of the world's largest man-made structure had been finally revealed in 2012, as 13,170.69 miles (21,196.18 kilometers). The surprising length is more than twice as long as the previous estimates.

and how long will the US one be?

this says it

http://fortune.com/2017/01/26/trump-wall-mexico/

Mexico's border with the U.S. is some 2,000 miles long, though roughly 653 miles (or almost a third) of it has already been fenced off in previous government projects. That leaves 1,347 miles needing a wall to comply with Trump's executive order calling for a "contiguous land border between the United States and Mexico, including all points of entry."

i bet its far more rugged etc too

Have you looked at photographs of the Great Wall of China.

Trump is mad enough and bad enough to do it and I wouldn't put it past him to do something similar to what an earlier post suggested. Either that or use Maxican prisoners and illegal immigrants to do it. as prisoners were used to build American Roads.

In your opinion , to many he is doing something what should have been done a long time ago.

Will a physical wall be effective in controlling immigration?

Ask Hungary. Since the construction of a fence between Hungary and Croatia at the height of the EU migrant crisis, migrants attempting to get into the country dropped from 138,000 a month to 15.

Things have moved on a bit in the last 2,000 years though. Air travel for example. This article shows that illegal immigrants come by air on a visa. They become illegal when their visa expires and they don't return.
