Fairground Songs

What songs do you remember from when you went to the fair?

When and which fair?

I remember the clapping song ( 639 The Goose Drank Wine ) - Shirley Ellis.

Norton Oaks Fair near Gleadless Valley, around 1965. Trying to jump on the speedway like the fairlads did, almost killed myself.

Rock And Roll Waltz by Kay Starr and See You Later Alligator by Bill Haley, mid fifties at Rotherham Statiss which came in the Autumn every year and was probably the biggest fair outside of the Nottingham goose fair. Used to hear those songs at smaller fairs in the area too, like in Catcliffe, where I lived then.

I remember "Hot Diggety Dog Diggety , Boom What you Do To Me", on a fairground as a child. I cannot recall the singer or if that is the proper title.

It was Perry Como. The title was Hot Diggety (about 1956).

Hot Diggety at the Enderby (Leicester) Fair and Granada by Frankie Lane at the Farm Grounds.

Both songs immediately take me back there.
