Auto electrician advice/recommendations?

wouldnt bother with graysons mate they ripped me off charged me 60 quid to turn my car on and off for 10 mins and tell me i didnt have a fault when i did ended up taking it home and fixing it myself also the manager is rude and will leave u standing there for 20 mins ignoring you and turn his back on you

After several years of trying to get an electrical fault in my car diagnosed and fixed, they managed it at their first attempt.

 

Fixed mine today - and less than a third of the price Ford dealers were quoting even to "investigate" the fault.

Basically, the battery is only there for starting the engine and acts as a load to stabilise the alternator output at around 12-13v. As soon as the engine is running, the charge light should extinguish and everything is then powered from the alternator, and as long as the charge light remains off then some of the current should be flowing into the battery. Assuming that the battery and alternator have been checked, then current might be draining slowly from the battery whilst the ignition is switched off, this is is something that a good auto electrician should find.

I had this problem once and it was because i had left an internal light on in the car. If you only drive in daylight then you wouldn't even notice it.

Thats right, I've left the radio on with vol. at minimum which doesnt help, but some components can develop a leak, or corrosion on plug blocks or even frayed cable somewhere on the wiring harness can cause this trouble. Some circuits do cause a constant drain on the battery such as digital clocks, alarms etc. but this drain current is usually very small.
