Had mine forwarding port 80 for years and nothing's happened.

Is the IP camera a "for China only" model? I don't mean if it is made in China or not, but sometimes there are IP cameras that only function in China i.e. they are for domestic market sale.

Sounds like one I have received for review. Is the app yoosee? The one I have you reset the camera (button in the back), it then says ready to config. You then click add in the app and put in your wifi details, it then talks to the camera via an audio noise and connects (will ask for the camera user and password which is on the back of the camera). While it gets an IP it doesn't have a web interface (I think, I have only briefly set it up, and popped the IP into a browser which returned a page cannot be displayed), the settings are done through the app. Everything works through WiFi and 4G as it should.

I've just seen you mentioned Ithink as the app, looking on the play store the app looks very, very similar.

If the camera only has a USB connection, then it's not an IP camera, unless it has WiFi built in..

 

Then you would generally connect it to your computer via USB, go to it's configuration page, connect it to the WiFi network, then you should be able to use it...

It is an odd setup, i'll have another play with it later to confirm, but pretty sure there is no web interface, it does support ONVIF though so can be added to an NVR,

To be fair, it depends on the specific camera.

 

Mine has a root password hard-coded into it so if I opened up SSH to the world then yes, it would instantly be open to abuse. However it also has a specific RTSP port that only serves the video feed, so that is the only thing I open to the outside world.

 

Then again having the web interface open would be both bad and impractical, as its so **** it only works in old versions of IE anyway. I literally had to fire up a virtual machine of Windows XP to configure the darn thing.

 

Of course I also have traffic monitoring on my router so I can see if anyone is accessing it.
