Electrician needed to inspection / testing

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks

We're just in the process of buying a house (1970s) and the surveyor has suggested to get an inpsection and electical test done before we proceed to make it doesn't need any major work e.g. rewiring. The consumer unit will probably need to be upgraded.

Can you recommend any decent electricians / company who will this and what sort of prices will they charge.

"The mains electricity supply was switched on at the time of my inspection.

The meter and consumer unit (fuse-box) are located in the integral garage.

The consumer unit is fitted with some modern safety devices ('residual current device’ – RCD and/or ‘miniature circuit breakers’ – MCB).

The Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) recommends that electrical systems are inspected and tested every 10 years or on change of occupancy.

The presence of braided light-drops to many of the rooms indicates that some of the hidden electrical wiring is old and the electrical system is not compliant with modern standards and you should ask an appropriately qualified person to inspect the whole electrical system now."

Thanks folks
