Back pain

My advice would be to not get dragged into seeing chiropractors, osteopaths, rubbing aincient oils all over your body whilst taking rare Chinese supplements.  Instead, spend that money on a good personal trainer and a  gym membership.

I have had back pain for years.  It's taken a lot of work from my GP and hospital specialists, but we have an idea what is causing it now.  Steroid injections work incredibly well for me as it is inflammation based.  For someone with non-inflammatory causes, this treatment would do nothing.  Basically what I am trying to say is there is no way of knowing how to treat your back pain without knowing the cause of it.  Your GP is the person you need to speak to.

All that said, making sure you have good posture and exercising regularly is the cornerstone of a healthy back.

Chiropractor isn't same category as ancient oils and supplements.

Chiropractor can work magic at finding problem spots. Obviously only if it's muscular etc . not deeper medical issue. Covered by Westfield if you're in that.

As a top up, I've had Thai massages (genuine ones , not back-street stuff....) just to keep on top of things.

A lot of back problems are not helped by the taking of Opiods like Tramadol etc; They do take the pain off but when you don’t take them the pain comes back worse.

Always someone worse off than you though isn’t there ?

One way of looking at it,  my sister in law suffered with her back about 7yrs ago, finished up in a wheelchair... after numerous visits to the NGH , they diagnosed summat, can"t for the life remember what, but they did an operation and completely cured her, you want too see her now, walks for miles and miles.. get it sorted lass.

Wish I could get mine sorted Pads but it's not always possible.

I've had arthritis in my facet joints in my spine for over 20 years and the pain never goes away completely.

Seen various consultants over the years and they have all deemed it too risky to operate on my back as I could end up in a wheelchair.  So ........ just a case of taking painkillers and putting up with it.       😞

The spine is a dodgy thing to operate on as it’s the central nervous system, and as you say you can end up in a wheel chair. Mine is the same as yours , arthritis in the facet joints of the spine. In other words “ wear and tear”  I’ve tried, physio, acupuncture, and  chiropractor . The only thing I haven’t tried is an osteopath. But would it do me any good ? Has anyone tried it ? Otherwise it’s back to the painkillers !

I was similar to you 5 years ago with terrible pains in the back and legs and I had spinal fusion operation, where they screw, screws and bolts into your spine. It worked , but I was very lucky because I had 6 days in the critical care unit with blood clots and pneumonia after. It shifted the pain. But now it is coming back because of the 2 vertebra being rigid it is wearing out the one below. So now they are going to give me epidural injections to see if that will do any good. Mind you I am 81.

Are you on any painkillers ? The only thing that will take my pain away is Tramadol but I don’t take more than 2 a day as it’s an opioid and is addictive.

Only paracetamol for the arthritis but I go to the pain clinic next month for an assessment.
