Hippogriff   10 #1 Posted October 9, 2016 Does anyone know someone, or are you that someone, who has a large lathe?  I have a slice of a tree's (that was felled) trunk and I'm wanting to 'make' a really thick and solid floor lamp stand out of it. I can do the sanding and the varnishing and the putting of feet on and I've even cut it to some kind of approximation of a circle with my handsaw...  ...but now I think I need someone with the right tool to get it a lot more uniform-looking for me... and maybe put a nice edge on the top side so it's not just a plain right-angle.  Maybe even created an inverted bowl-type effect on the bottom to remove some material and reduce the overall weight? The feet (speaker spikes to protect carpet) can go around the outside. Happy to listen to guidance.  It's about 40cm in diameter, so it'd need to be a pretty big lathe I reckon?  Here's a picture of it...  My wooden 'disc'  ---------- Post added 10-10-2016 at 10:43 ----------  I've found someone who can do this and I've arranged to visit on Wednesday evening.
