Beggars, homeless, street drinkers & drug users in Sheffield!

I don't understand why anyone who is actually homeless would get a dog. If they supposedly can't look after themselves, how could they look after an animal? If a dog was kept in an unfit home, the RSPCA would take it away. The pavement is an unfit home. Hmmm.

Some rough sleepers have a dog for companionship and for protection. If the guy set alight in Birmingham last week had got a dog perhaps he wouldn't have been targeted.

That's true,   and there is also the fact that some rough sleepers will have had the dog before they became homeless.

If someone wants to hang on to the only true friend they have in the world,  that's fine by me.

Some dogs are far nicer than some people.

Just got back from ASDA, and the usual beggar who sits by the entrance isn't there...

However he has left a note thanking everyone for their contributions over the last year.

At the moment he's on a 3 week holiday in Tenerife, but will be back in time for Christmas.

That's very nice of him, and it's saved me a couple of quid

Talking to an army veteran in Asda today. He was collecting for a veterans charity.

.He told me that there were thirty thousand veterans on the streets.

No doubt forum veterans will have plenty to say on that.

Aye, hes likely talking cobblers. One of these facts wheeled out without any substance behind it whatsoever,

There is a difference between being "homeless" and being "on the streets", the former includes people using hostels, B&Bs etc. There arent even 30k people "on the streets" on any given night in the UK, let alone 30k veterans.

Certain news outlets love to run with the homeless veteran angle, it appeals to a certain subset of angry faced people....

A lot of people who joined the armed forces had no homes when they joined up that's one of the reasons they joined

Link me to something then. I suspect he is getting confused with "homeless" and "on the streets" which are two very different things, and the number of the former is much higher than the number of the latter.

The one that was running around The Moor attacking didn't seem nice at all.

For avoidance of any doubt, no one HAS to sleep on the street, the Sally Army offer night shelters. https://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/homelessness/night-shelters  and there is a soup kitchen here https://sysurvivalguide.co.uk/directory-sy_survival/listing/sheffield-churches-soup-kitchen-churches-soup-wagon/ . Remember that MOST (virtually all) beggars are not homeless at all and are deceptive to gain money for drugs and gambling, some use conning the public as a career. A zero tolerance approach on begging needs to be stringently enforced.
