Money left in bank machine

I once saw someone leave £200 in an ATM when I was a teenager. I ran after him and gave it back, and he gave me the quickest £10 I've ever earned (seems a bit tight in exchange for £200, now I come to think about it... )

 

Was not being tight, just left £200 for grabs. Come to think of it he must be pretty distracted.

It happened to me, I was in drink and wasn't fast enough, the money went back into the machine, because it wasn't my bank, I had to go into one of my bank branches and fill a form in, they then have to claim it from the other bank. I've not done that again.

If you ring the bank wouldn't they be able to tell you if the machine took it back?
