Recycling Tetra packs in Sheffield or South Yorkshire

Recommended Posts

Hi, Rich here, I'm disabled and I used to drive the Tetra packs to Waitrose on Ecclesall road [here in Sheffield], does anyone know if the Sheffield drop off for Tetra packs has changed? or if there's now another or no place to recycle them? Could anyone update this. I've searched online and on this forum but i can't find where anyone else has asked the same question? Thanks ..Rich.

Hi there Rich, I use Waitrose to drop our cartons off as well and as it happens, I went to use it last weekend. The area on the left as you drive in from the London Road side where all the recycling used to be, has now been closed off by a barrier for some reason, but if you drive round immediately to the right instead, in the area opposite the Karl Benz kitchen showroom, then you'll find a slightly smaller area for recycling which still includes a number of carton bins.

To be honest it doesn't seem to be a widely recycled product, and the only other place I knew of in Sheffield that used to take them was the Sainsburys on Archer road, though they removed those bins a few years ago now. I know it's a very specialist product to recycle because of the cost of splitting out the wax and plastic from the cardboard, but based on how full the bins are every time I use them, there seems to be plenty of 'supply' even if the 'demand' is low.

Just put them in the black bin Rich.

Its not very efficient or cost effective to actually drive somewhere just to have them recycled, and as HallamGirl says it a specialist product for recycling.

If you fill them with concrete, they make excellent decorative bricks that could enhance any home and astound friends and planning officers alike. Good carbon footprint too, as I get most of my fruit juice from the Crookes Co-op.

It's a fair point, but I only drop them off when I've a big bin bag full of them to get rid of which I keep in the garage. I guess it depends on whether you've the space to keep them and get rid in bulk or not.

A few years ago we noticed that a number of paper recycling bins were relabelled to say you could deposit TetraPaks as well. At Sainsburys for sure, but at some others whose names I am struggling to recall.
